Brown Bag Lunch
Posted by Brad Abare | Filed under: Personality News
Each week, the Personality™ team gathers for a "Brown Bag Lunch" (BBL) in our 8th floor offices overlooking Echo Park Lake in the foreground and the downtown skyline of Los Angeles in the background. In addition to enjoying some good Friday laughs together, it's also a time to learn.
A different team member is assigned to each week which means each person will lead a BBL every 6-8 weeks. This allows everybody time between presentations (6-8 weeks each) to read a book, attend a workshop, etc. and then outline three lessons learned from the book or workshop and summarize three applications to Personality™.
We started the BBL concept about a year ago, and we've tweaked it a few times since. Our current setup calls for about 15 minutes of heating (the microwave) and eating, the next 30 minutes for presentation, and the last 15 minutes for discussion.
It ain't always perfect. Sometimes people are not ready. Sometimes we're really busy on client work. Other times we substitute the BBL for a celebration outside the office to welcome a new team member (or say goodbye to one), wish happy birthday, etc. In other words, the BBL is a discipline, not a mandate.
The important thing? We're learning.
