Brett Hutchinson | Director of Research & Development

By the second act of The Mouse that Roared, at the age of 16, Brett knew he was doing what he was created for. But it was more than laughter and applause that Brett craved--he wanted to use his acting gift to change the world. He would get his chance and for 14 years Brett would perform in churches, prisons, nursing homes, schools--wherever people came together. What he uncovered while performing in Europe, Africa and the United States was that stories, when acted out or shared in a group, have the power to influence attitudes, change perceptions and motivate others to make good decisions.

Brett translated his acting skills into 'real world' skills, after leaving road life and becoming the executive director of an international youth organization during one of its most difficult periods. In the process he learned how to apply storytelling to web design, donor communications, finding and recruiting board members, strategic planning, operations and project management; even setting agendas for board meetings.

Today, Brett applies those skills to helping nonprofits and businesses tell their stories in workshops that he does together with his wife, Serena.

Random Fact:

Brett drove a van for four days across Europe with no steering wheel. A pair of vice grips did the job and even managed to avoid detection by a German police officer who was so interested in the rack of costumes in the back of the van that he didn't notice the missing steering wheel. The show must go on, and Brett made sure it did.

Other Title:

Dad. Brett and his wife have two amazing boys, Lukas and Noah. And to our knowledge he's never turned to his son and said in that familiar voice, "Lukas, I am your father."

Quote:

"Listen to your wife." -Serena Hutchinson, Brett's wife. She has never steered him wrong (she wasn't with him for that steering wheel fiasco).
